Literally translated, bánh gan means “liver cake”. However, this cake contains no liver; it’s only called that way because the appearance should somewhat resemble a piece of liver. It has this dark brown greyish color and the texture looks so much like liver. But don’t let the looks and name scare you! This cake is served cold and the flavor is rich and creamy, quite similar to flan. Quite a yummy eat!

not many recipes terrify me, but this one did! thank you for clarifying it right at the beginning. it sounds like a yummy dessert. i can't imagine what the texture is like…more like a pudding or kind of custardy?
Oh Helen! I love your recipes

Hi Helen, where did u get that fried pan?
I would like to try the liver cake for my 55th birthday, thanks Helen for sharing.
Hi Helen. Great recipe as always! Just wanted to bring to your attention, when presenting the ingredients you sat "one TEASPOON of rice flour and one TABLESPOON of cocoa powder", but the writing is the other way around (and also later in the recipe you say a tablespoon of flour and a teaspoon of cocoa). Adding more flour than cocoa powder seems like the right idea, but maybe you should add an annotation or something? Thanks.
